TSKI declares March as Demetrio P. Sonza’s Month in honor of the late TSKI Chairman (2003-2011)

To honor his legacy and lasting impact in Taytay sa Kauswagan (A Microfinance NGO), Inc., the TSKI Board officially declares March as Demetrio P. Sonza Month last March 26, 2025.

TSKI commemorates his years of service by dedicating the month of March as a time of reflection and celebration of his contributions. His vision of a financially inclusive and empowered Philippines remains a guiding light for TSKI’s ongoing work.

Demetrio P. Sonza’s leadership from 2003 to 2011 marked a transformative period for TSKI—an era of growth, resilience, and unwavering commitment to uplifting lives. His name remains an integral part of the organization's history, and his influence continues to inspire those who carry on his mission. A pivotal chapter in its history was shaped by the visionary leadership of “Sir Demy”.

When Sir Demy assumed the role of TSKI Chairman in 2003, he brought with him a wealth of experience as a public servant, historian, and advocate for economic empowerment. His governance style was marked by strategic vision, integrity, and a deep concern for the well-being of the Filipino poor.

Under his leadership, TSKI expanded its outreach, strengthened its operational systems to ensure efficient, accountable, and transparent financial services. TSKI also enhanced its support programs, integrating financial literacy, values formation, and capacity-building activities to empower the clients beyond financial assistance. TSKI achieved remarkable milestones, including multiple awards recognizing TSKI as a top-performing microfinance institution in the Philippines, both nationally and internationally, and the prestigious ISO 9001:2000 certification, which set TSKI apart as an institution dedicated to quality management and continuous improvement in delivering financial services.

For over four decades, Taytay sa Kauswagan, Inc. (TSKI) has been at the forefront of microfinance and social development, empowering microentrepreneurs and underserved communities across the Philippines. During his tenure, TSKI experienced tremendous growth, operational strengthening, and program expansion, all rooted in his commitment to bridging the gap between poverty and progress. His leadership not only reinforced the organization’s mission but also ensured that TSKI’s programs remained holistic, sustainable, and transformative.

Sonza’s contributions went beyond policies and programs—he led with heart and purpose. His belief that economic empowerment must be accompanied by personal growth and ethical leadership was embedded in TSKI’s training programs, instilling values of integrity, perseverance, and self-reliance among its beneficiaries.

His background as a historian and poet also influenced his leadership, as he saw microfinance not just as an economic solution but as a social movement that could reshape the course of history for countless Filipino families.

When Sonza completed his tenure as TSKI Chairman in 2011, he left behind an institution that was stronger, more resilient, and more capable than ever before. His leadership provided a solid foundation for future growth, and the principles he upheld continue to guide the organization’s mission today.

As we commemorate his service, we reaffirm our dedication to his vision—a future where every Filipino has the opportunity to thrive, break free from poverty, and achieve lasting progress.

Thank you, Chairman Sonza, for your invaluable leadership and lasting impact on TSKI and the people we serve.
