Poverty is a rampant problem in the country that almost kills every opportunity in the lives of Filipino people. However, life is still fair for those who are willing to make it meaningful. Our pains and struggles are teaching us to be patient and persevering. Our dreams and goals are reminders for us to be hard working always and never lose hope when the storm of life came along our way. This depicts the story of Jordan Inalisan, 29 years old and a resident of Brgy. Candigahub, Carigara, Leyte. Being born in a poor family, life was never easy for him. There were times during his childhood that their family experienced not eating the whole day because they do not have any food to eat. Both of his parents are farmers and most of the time their salary is not enough to buy their food and their needs in the house. It is also the main reason why the three of them were not able to finish their studies. Jordan was not able to finish his studies in high school because the reality of life was forcing him to look for a job so that he could help his parents.

At his early age, he decided to become a helper to a family that owns a small business in their locality. The family runs a business of making assorted delicacies and is one of the manufacturers/dealers to small businesses in their town. Jordan was very lucky because his employer was very kind to him. He even exposed Jordan to his business and operations. It was the start of his business inclination.

Then after sometime, the children of his employer decided to migrate in US and they have to stop the business they have here in the country. But with strong faith to God and relying on his capacity, Jordan asked permission from his employer if he could continue the business. Fortunately, his employer agreed to his plan and gives him his support.

At first, Jordan’s business ran smoothly but not until the typhoon Yolanda hit the country last 2013. His business was greatly affected by the wide devastation caused by the said typhoon. Almost all of his resources were closed and are not already profitable. But Jordan faced it with a positive heart and resourceful spirit. Instead of giving up, he looked for any means that will help him start recovering his business. After the typhoon, he decided to put up a small eatery. He started cooking two-to-three viand everyday and he sells it to his neighborhood as well as to the neighboring towns. He is also very thankful during that time because TSKI has helped him so much by giving him the opportunity to borrow money for an additional capital in his business. He did not expect that his business of small eatery will become successful immediately. After a year, the annual income of his eatery amounted to P1, 350, 000. 00 and its annual profit is P405, 000. 00. He used the profit to operate once again his business of selling assorted delicacies. Now, the average annual sales of his assorted delicacies business amounted to P5, 904, 000 while its annual profit amounted to P1, 771, 200. 00. Jordan now is operating his two businesses and also providing opportunities to provide extra income to his fellow. He is now helping 16 students who are working as part time in his assorted delicacies business. He is also providing extra income to the owners of carabaos and goats in their community through the milk of their animals. In fact, it is his main secret for his delicious products.

Jordan is serving the community not only through his businesses but he is also serving as a Barangay Kagawad in their barangay. Because of the good reputation that he has and being a good model to his fellow people especially of the youth, he was also elected as the Youth Leader in their community. These are just a few of his own humble ways of expressing his gratitude to God for all the blessing that he and his family are continually receiving from Him.

For almost ten years of being a member of OKEY Loan program of TSKI, Jordan is considered as one of the most outstanding client because of his good records. Now he is in his tenth cycle and having a current loan of P25, 000. 00, he is planning to use it for the expansion of his business. In fact, he is now looking for good places wherein he can put a branch of his business and also to provide new opportunities of employment.

For Jordan, he considered his life as a living proof that poverty is not a hindrance to reach one’s success. We only need to be brave and strong when the storms of life occur. We should always believe in what we can do and what we can achieve. We should always be mindful of sharing God’s grace by helping our brothers and sisters, especially those who are in need. And most importantly, we should never lose hope and faith that God’s love will be always with us to help us in times of our needs.
